A vision of compassion, service & community transformation
Founder / President
It gives me immense pleasure to present this note on the Rural Upliftment and Development Society (RUDS), Tobu, an organisation founded by Dr. M. Wanmai Konyak with a vision to serve and uplift the people living in the remote and rural areas of Tobu and the surrounding regions. Since its establishment, the Society has remained committed to promoting inclusive development, self-reliance, social welfare, and community well-being. RUDS Tobu is listed as a registered society in Tobu, Mon District, with registration dating to 01/06/2002.
The Society was established with the understanding that people living in remote areas often face challenges related to limited livelihood opportunities, inadequate educational facilities, insufficient healthcare services, poor connectivity, and difficult access to essential services. Therefore, RUDS Tobu works with the people and for the people, encouraging community participation and collective responsibility in the process of development.
One of the major aims of the Society is to strengthen rural livelihoods by promoting sustainable income-generating activities, skill development, agriculture-based initiatives, and opportunities for self-employment. Through such efforts, RUDS seeks to support economically weaker families and help communities become more self-reliant and financially secure.
Education is another important area of focus. The Society believes that education is the foundation of social progress and community development. It strives to support children and young people by encouraging education, improving access to learning opportunities, promoting literacy, and creating awareness about the importance of education. Special attention is given to children and communities living in remote areas where educational resources may be limited.
In the field of healthcare, RUDS Tobu aims to promote health awareness, preventive healthcare, hygiene, sanitation, and access to basic health services. The Society seeks to support vulnerable individuals and families and to create awareness about healthy living and the importance of timely medical care.
RUDS also actively encourages community participation and voluntary service. The Society believes that development becomes meaningful and sustainable when local people work together to address common challenges. Community members are encouraged to take part in social welfare activities, awareness programmes, village development initiatives, and efforts that promote unity, cooperation, and mutual support.
A significant area of the Society’s voluntary involvement is the clearing and restoration of roads affected by landslides, blockages, accidents, and other natural or unforeseen circumstances. In remote areas, roads are essential for transportation, education, healthcare, trade, communication, and emergency services. Whenever roads become blocked or damaged, communities may face serious difficulties. Through voluntary community involvement and collective action, RUDS supports efforts to clear road blockages and restore connectivity for the benefit of the public.
The Rural Upliftment and Development Society, Tobu, remains committed to the vision of its founder, Dr. M. Wanmai Konyak, and continue to work towards building educated, healthy, self-reliant, united, and empowered rural communities. With the cooperation of community members, volunteers, well-wishers, government departments, and development partners, the Society hopes to reach more people and contribute meaningfully to the sustainable development of remote and rural areas.
As President, I express my sincere gratitude to all members, volunteers, community leaders, supporters, and partners who have contributed to the growth and activities of RUDS Tobu. Together, we will continue to work with dedication and compassion towards a future where every rural community has opportunities for a better, healthier, and more dignified life.
Dr. M. Wanmai Konyak, Ph.D.
President, RUDS
